Cars for Sale in Spokane, Washington
The "Lilac City" is famous for its beautiful nature outings, as its motto (Near Nature. Near Perfect) would suggest. Spokane is the 2nd largest city in Washington and the 102nd largest city in the country. It sits about 280 miles east of Seattle, and its airport services the entire Inland Northwest region of the state. The temperature varies moderately throughout the year. Though the record high for the city is 108 degrees, average highs in the summer rarely rise above 83 degrees. On the other side, the most extreme winters have dropped to temperatures of -30 degrees, though typical winter lows average in the mid-20s. The city only experiences 16 inches of annual precipitation, but it does receive almost four feet of snow each year. This means Spokane only experiences a little more than half of its total possible sunshine hours, which averages 2,575 hours per month.
Aside from a minor downtick in the middle of the 20th century, Spokane's population has consistently grown from decade to decade. The most recent census data indicates that Spokane's population is 208,916 people. Economically, Spokane is ideally situated between productive mining and farming areas, so it was and is an important rail and shipping center for the region.
Spokane's unique cultural output is Father's Day. Sonora Dodd, the founder of Father's Day, developed the idea in Spokane's Central Methodist Episcopal Church, and the first observance was on June 19, 1910. Other cultural outputs for Spokane include a number of music groups and museums. The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture is one of the most popular museums and is actually a Smithsonian affiliate. The Spokane Symphony and Spokane Jazz Orchestra are the two primary music performance groups, which present a full season of classical and jazz music, respectively.
