After 30 months of development, the Ferrari 550 Maranello was unveiled in July, 1996 at the Nurburgring racing circuit in Germany. The models name referred to the 5.5-liter total engine displacement and to the town of Maranello, home to the Ferrari headquarters and factory. A major service performed in September 2023 involved replacement of the timing belts, idler bearings, camshaft seals, and valve cover gaskets as well as the water pump, battery, spark plugs, engine mounts, fuel pumps, and air and fuel filters. Upon acquisition, Continental spent over $12,000 preparing this Ferrari for its new owner, including an inspection by a Ferrari trained Technician, an annual service with wiper blades, new horn compressor, new ashtray assembly components, a slow down ECU, new firewall insulator, parking brake adjustment, healight bulb, license plate bulbs, rerouted coolant hoses and a recovered dashboard, airbag cover and binnacle cover.
